Under a government initiative – the National Health Informatics Project, Taiwanese researchers now may apply the access right to analyze 30+ health related databases, which are collected, organized and managed by Health and Welfare Data Science Center (HWDC) of Ministry of Health and Welfare(MOHW).
HWSAC has established a branch office at NTU in 2012, which is located on the same floor as the NTU HDRC, offering a fully-equipped and privacy-protected computer room for research staff to access and analyze health data.
Although the data we may apply to access is organized by HWDC, the data originally comes from Department of Statistic, Ministry of Health and Welfare(DOS), Health Promotion Administration, Ministry of Health and Welfare(HPA), Department of Medical Affair, Ministry of Health and Welfare(DMA), Council of Indigenous Peoples, Executive Yuan(CIP), National Police Agency, Ministry of Interior(NPA) and National Health Insurance Administration, Ministry of Health and Welfare(NHIA). Among all the databases, the most important one is National Health Insurance(NHI) Database. In addition, health related data from other government agencies, such as Birth Certificate Application, Cause of Death data, Multiple Cause of Death Data, Taiwan Cancer Registry and National Aboriginal population profile …etc can be applied to integrate with the NHI data to broaden research scope in a more dynamic perspective.
